A Chrysler Saratoga was tricked out with huge replica Zippos on the side panels that towered over the roof, removable neon flames and lids that snapped shut for travel. The car went everywhere — to all 48 continental United States — but the weight of the supersized lighters caused frequent blowouts, and the armor-plated fenders made it impossible to jack for a tire change. Finally, the Zippo Car was sent to a dealer for renovations, forgotten about and lost. But in , Zippo got hold of another Saratoga, and made itself a new one with lighter materials and better suspension. These days, the Zippo Car travels by truck trailer. Nonetheless, Zippos seem to have an uncanny ability to draw fire.
Brass — Brass is a metal alloy made of copper and zinc, the proportions of zinc and copper can be varied to create a range of brasses with varying properties. It is an alloy, atoms of the two constituents may replace each other within the same crystal structure. By comparison, bronze is principally an alloy of copper and tin, however, bronze and brass may also include small proportions of a range of other elements including arsenic, phosphorus, aluminium, manganese, and silicon.
The term is applied to a variety of brasses. Modern practice in museums and archaeology increasingly avoids both terms for objects in favour of the all-embracing copper alloy. It is also used in zippers, Brass is often used in situations in which it is important that sparks not be struck, such as in fittings and tools used near flammable or explosive materials.

Zippo is approaching its 80th anniversary and is on track to produce lighter number , , this coming year and every one of those , , is produced at the Zippo plant in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Once as common as the cigarettes they lit, Zippos are now known as a tool for saluting old rock stars as much as for providing a wind-proof flame. But Zippos are still big business: The company produces 50, lighters a day, employing some folks. The flip-top lighters have infiltrated our culture.
Blaisdell to everyone who worked for him was watching a friend fumbling over an Austrian-made lighter with a chimney design. The flame was hardy, but the lighter required two hands and the metal casing dented easily. Blaisdell retooled the concept and, in , introduced the first Zippo lighter. He built it, and the rest of those early lighters, himself, with help from his two daughters, who would pitch in after school.
The longstanding love affair between soldier and lighter started during World War II, when Zippo stopped commercial sales and devoted all production to the military. The sturdy lighters went into foreign theaters with millions of American soldiers. And back in Bradford, George Blaisdell received fan mail from some pretty famous brass.
However, much has happened since it went up, including the Blogger outage. Scroll down for a report on that. More new posts will be added below this one. The essay below is the conclusion of the ninth part in a series by Takuan Seiyo. See the list at the bottom of this post for links to the previous installments.

Almost all futurist Bible prophecy students will agree that there are three end time wars involving Israel. However, we disagree somewhat on the timing of first two wars. Those wars being the Ezekiel Chapter 38 and 39 war where Gog comes down with a host of nations and the Psalm 83 war where a confederacy of nations attempts to cut Israel off from being a nation.
In the mix somewhere is the destruction of Damascus since the prophecy has never been fulfilled yet. I have heard enough about this book to know that Bill Salus makes a strong case for the war of Psalm 83 coming first.
The Zippo has the convenience of staying lit until you close the metal case. Plastic lighters can be found sold at gas stations and drug store counters and costs a couple of dollars. Once the fluid is used up they’re thrown away.

Before the comic was published, the authors David Anthony Kraft and Roger Slifer had been invited backstage to meet the band during their New York Palladium show on December 11, The Defenders was a pretty cerebral kind of comic. We were knocked out, and it really meant a lot to us. It was like real credibility. That tiny little line in the comic book meant more to us than a whole issue of Rolling Stone or anything else. It really means something to us because that’s a real measure of respect.
It’s from another artist, and it’s like the praise of the praiseworthy. Polydor Records used an altered version of an original Rush photo in this album’s gatefold art. Without Rush’s knowledge, the photo of a crowd holding a Rush starman banner was mirrored and airbrushed to read “Long Live Rock ‘N Roll” and printed on the album’s inside gatefold. To present the idea to Polydor, I made up a dummy cover with the Rush shot unretouched in the centerfold just to demonstrate the advertising shot we intended to take at the next Rainbow concert

Lover of cuckoo clocks. In Canada, self-defense has now been implicitly declared sexist by the incumbent liberals at Parliament Hill. Not a person intent on injuring, immobilizing, or otherwise incapacitating you, of course. Not a person intent on raping your mother, sister, or girlfriend. Not a person intent on mugging you after they sock you in the teeth at best.
Not them, the law prohibits.
